NEVER FORGET
I was late for work that day. Traffic was tied up because of the President's visit. I had the news on and they were talking about a plane flying into one of the twin towers.
I called a friend and her first reaction was...Bin Laden. You see, we had already lost someone dear to us to that monster. He worked in the Embassy in Tanzania. I was still in shock. I couldn't believe THEY would be that bold.
Then, as we were still talking I began to scream. I watched as the second plane slammed into the other tower.
It was now evident. America was under attack.
I dropped to my knees and prayed like I had never prayed before. I was horrified. How could ANYONE do something like that. It was beyond my comprehension.
I had to get to work, so I pulled myself together and rushed to the office. I was live streaming the news when I saw about the attack on the Pentagon. My horror migrated into absolute terror.
They had struck at the heart and soul of the country. Our economy and our security. All of those innocent lives. Lost.
Then as news filtered in of another plane, this one crashing into a field in PA, it all became too overwhelming.
That afternoon, after we were sent home, I sat on my friend's lanai holding her 13 year old daughter in my lap. Her fear was palatable. Every time a jet would fly overhead she would begin to shake. "Are they coming for us now, Aunt Tammi? Are we going to die?"
"No sweetheart. Those are the good guys. They are keeping us safe."
"Why? Why would someone do this?"
I had no answer. I still have no logical answer. Hate is NOT logical. Never has been. Never will be. And hate because of religious difference is just beyond my comprehension.
I will never forget that day. Ever. It has changed my world forever. Now...the most important role my government can take is to keep this country safe. Nothing else matters if we are not safe in our homes.
We've been fortunate these past 7 years. Our government HAS kept us safe - how sad that so many Americans cannot or will not acknowledge that fact.
I, for one, am grateful. And I will continue to do all that I can to make sure.....that we never forget. That we never surrender.

it is a sad day....

I makes me mad that people brush it aside so easily. It can (and will) happen again unless we make safety our TOP priority.

I'm speaking with Dell tech support in India and the first thing he asked was: 'how is your nation doing today?'
Your account of that horrible day is chilling and very real... brings it back, really does.
